FAA Reauthorization Set For Debate This Week
June 10, 2003
FAA tops the legislative agenda of both the U.S. House and Senate this week as each chamber works to start floor debate on their versions of the agency’s reauthorization legislation. A representative for Sen. Trent Lott (R-Miss), chair of the Commerce aviation subcommittee said the bill might be introduced on Friday. Congressional sources say the House is trying to open debate Wednesday or Thursday.
Extending the pilot retirement age and banning privatization of air traffic control are some provisions of the Senate version, while the House is focusing on slots at Washington National Airport, Aviation Safety Reporting System funding and the extensions of protections of AIR-21 to ensure taxes and revenues from the aviation trust fund are spent correctly. –LR
